Public Sculpture Wood and Rope 18'' x 19'' x 3.5'' (One Seat) 2018 Asking questions and creating conversation is the first way to start making people more aware of the divisions we create among each other and to allow us to find more ways to come together and experience unity. This public sculpture is made out of wood. I created 6 small chair/stools. These stools are able to connect and form a larger circle, but can also be moved and used individually. In creating this piece, I am creating a space that has the potential to bring people together. Usually, where there are chairs or places to sit, people tend to gather. With the creation of these chairs in a public space, I am inviting people to interact. Calling together people who are individuals, as the seats are, and yet something beautiful happens when we all interact. There is the potential for unity. In doing this, we see a representation of a small community. There are no walls or borders for exclusion though, as the seats can be easily rearranged to cater to the type of community their users would like to create.
